Hujan Meteor dan Gerhana Bulan pad Bulan Desember 2010

Pada akhir tahun 2010 ini akan terjadi dua fenomena angkasa yaitu hujan meteor dan gerhana bulan. Kedua fenomena alam tersebut akan menyertai hari-hari penduduk Bumi menjelang pergantian tahun.

Hujan meteor yang terjadi pada akhir tahun ini adalah hujan Meteor Geminid. Pada siang ini sebenarnya akan terjadi puncak hujan meteor. Tadi malam dan nanti malam, masih bisa disaksikan," kata Peneliti dari Lembaga Penerbangan dan Antariksa Nasional(LAPAN) Thomas, Senin (13/12/2010).



Hujan Meteor Geminid tersebut berasal dari asteroid Phaenton. Asteroid merupakan kepala komet yang sudah habis debu-debunya, sehingga yang tersisa hanya intinya berupa batu dengan diameter sekitar 5 kilometer.

Meteor shower ini bisa dilihat dengan mata telanjang. Jamaluddin bahkan menyarankan agar fenomena ini dilihat dengan mata telanjang ketimbang memakai teleskop. Sebab bila menggunakan teleskop maka medan pandang menjadi sempit.

"Kita bisa melihatnya ke arah utara sampai barat laut pada sesudah tengah malam hingga menjelang subuh. Ini tergolong sedang karena jumlah meteornya antara belasan sampai 20 meteor per jam," terang pria berkacamata ini.

Anda tertarik menyaksikannya? Bila iya, tengah malam nanti menghadaplah ke arah utara sampai barat laut. Carilah rasi bintang Gemini, karena hujan meteor ini seolah muncul dari gugus bintang tersebut.

Puncak hujan meteor Geminids, menurutnya terjadi pergeseran. Dulu puncaknya terjadi pada 12 Desember, namun sekarang terjadi pada 13-14 Desember. Hal ini dikarenakan debu asteroid yang dulunya adalah komet itu tidaklah diam. Debu berada di lintasan orbit dan mengorbit matahari. Saat hujan meteor terjadi, terkadang terlihat meteor berekor berwarna yang indah, ada yang kuning, hijau, atau kebiruan.

"Hujan meteor ini tampak seperti bintang jatuh atau berpindah, ada yang ke atas, bawah, atau seperti bergeser ke kanan atau kiri. Seperti kembang api, karena sewaktu-waktu terlontar ke atas. Tapi hanya beberapa detik, karena sebentar saja habis terbakar dan karenanya tidak terlihat lagi," jelas Jamaluddin.

Fenomena lain di akhir tahun ini adalah gerhana bulan yang terjadi pada 21 Desember. Sayangnya peristiwa ini tidak akan bisa dilihat di sebagian besar wilayah Indonesia.

"Pada saat gerhana bulan terjadi, di Indonesia (bulan) belum terbit karena masih sore. Di Sumatera mungkin bisa terlihat di bagian akhirnya. Yang bisa melihat penuh di Asia Barat, Timur Tengah dan Afrika," terang Jamaluddin.

Sedangkan gerhana matahari akan menyambut tahun baru 2011. Sebab pada 4 Januari, fenomena alam itu akan terjadi. Gerhana yang terjadi merupakan gerhana matahari sebagian.

"Wilayah Timur Tengah dan Asia Barat bisa melihat. 2 Minggu setelah gerhana bulan atau 2 minggu sesudahnya biasanya ada gerhana matahari," tutup dosen tidak tetap IAIN Semarang ini.
